Kaleb Mericle

It’s been said that the lyrics to “Suffragette City” allude to David Bowie’s bi-sexuality (I suppose that could be said about a great number of his songs), and while this song in no way reflects on Kaleb’s sexual orientation, it could reflect on his skate-ual orientation. Totally comfortable on both the streets and trannies (pun most definitely intended), Kaleb shows he feels at home in the Powell pool, as well as at the Larkins Hall big three. While a good portion of Ben’s and Max’s parts were filmed by Alex on a cross-country road trip, mine and Kaleb’s parts wouldn’t have been possible without a generous donation of footage from Michael Hodges. Some of Michael’s footage is super old, the 5-0 on the Nationwide rail was filmed one of the first times I’ve ever skated with Kaleb, in 2005 or 2006. The clip of Dublin legend and SPS poster child Steve Corcoran at the end made a long, unlikely journey into this video, from Andrew Frehs to Michael Hodges to me to Alex Hegerty. There is an interesting phenomenon, let’s just call it Corcoran’s Law, where anything funny in regular motion will be exponentially more funny when played in slow motion. It’s amazing how hilarious the wheezes of someone with a cracked rib sound when played at half, or even a quarter speed.
